Initially, when working on my project i wasnt completely sure what i wanted to do. However i narrowed my scope down and i now know i want to do a pet magazine, so in this weeks assignment the goal is to find and analyze some double page spreads of other pet magazine to help with the development of my own eventually.
Example 1:
This magazine's double page spread is varying, however i chose this specific one due to the way they used their pictures. Specifically on the second page, where the use of a large picture as the background is INCREDIBLY effective for appealing to readers emotion and is easy to see due to it being such a large picture and it being the background, under a piece of bold text which leads the reader on even more and uses "..." to maximize the hook on the reader by keeping them curious and making them want to read more. Moreover, the left side is more simplistic and text-reliant which is okay, however i dont know if a pet magazine of MY kind would need so many subheadings and pieces of text with a lack of pictures. The page only has 1 picture on the top which is okay, but i personally dont find this appealing to readers as the large separation from the picture to text makes the reader overwhelmed with words to read, especially considering the target audience of a pet magazine's group of people.
Example 2:
This double page spread also utilizes the background to incorporate a picture which relates to the text on the page. This adds a sense of cuteness with the picture being the cat, and the readers of pet magazines love pictures of cute pets, so this can serve as a way to capture the readers attention and maintain their interest. However, the second page uses multiple mid-sized pictures with 1-2 paragraphs of information with a single subheading for each one. I love this idea and it makes the page look very organized but at the same time eye-catching.
